Ajman: His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Crown Prince of Ajman, witnessed the graduation ceremony of the 21st batch from Gulf Medical University held in the evening of Wednesday, 27th November 2024 at the Thumbay Medicity, Al Jurf, Ajman.

His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi praised the commendable and blessed efforts made by UAE’s wise leadership, along with its continuous support for higher education institutions, in line with the era of knowledge and successive scientific developments. He emphasized that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the State (may God protect him), and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai (may God protect him), along with their brothers, Their Highnesses the Sheikhs, Rulers of the Emirates, have prioritized education as the most crucial pillar in the development process of the nation. It is considered a genuine investment of the UAE in achieving its aspirations and ambitions, which are boundless.

His Highness stressed that the university has achieved this distinguished position in a short time, thanks to the continuous support of his father, His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. He further emphasized the notable interest consistently shown by His Highness, along with the creation of an environment conducive to fulfilling the university’s mission and enabling it to play its role to the fullest.

His Highness, the Crown Prince of Ajman, extended sincere congratulations to the graduates for their outstanding achievements. A total of 561 graduates will join the healthcare workforce, bringing the total number of GMU alumni to 4,124. Among this year’s graduates, 207 are from the College of Medicine, 78 from the College of Dentistry, 47 from the College of Pharmacy, 151 from the College of Health Sciences, 50 from the College of Nursing, and 28 from the Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare. The student body of Gulf Medical University represents 102 nationalities.

United Arab Emirates: In commemoration of World Diabetes Day, Thumbay Hospital Fujairah successfully organized a Walkathon titled on Sunday, November 17, 2024. The event, aimed at raising awareness about diabetes prevention and promoting healthier lifestyles, saw an overwhelming participation of over 500 individuals from various sectors of the community.

The Walkathon began at Thumbay Hospital Fujairah and followed a route to the Fujairah Football Stadium Roundabout, with participants walking for an hour from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Hospital staff, government organizations, local schools, universities, insurance companies, community associations, and corporate entities came together to support the initiative. Participants were seen carrying banners and holding placards with important health messages to raise public awareness of diabetes and its growing prevalence in the UAE.

This year, over 3,000 students from more than 96 schools participated in six categories: project, poster, painting, music, poetry, and business ideas. The hybrid event, held both online and onsite, showcased approximately 1,400 exhibits from students in grades 10, 11, and 12, competing for a total of AED 50,000 in cash prizes, along with trophies and certificates.

Students showcased their projects and posters onsite while participating in an online contest for the other four categories: paintings, poetry, music, and business ideas. The competitions were judged by a panel of leading doctors, professors, and medical science professionals. The judges declared three winners and awarded two consolation prizes in each of the six categories for students in grades 10, 11, and 12, along with an online voting option for the Viewer’s Choice awards.

In his speech, Professor Al Shorbagy highlighted the many contributions of the pharmacy profession and encouraged future pharmacists to take pride in their expanding roles. He urged them to work hard to broaden the horizons of their positions at the heart of the health profession.

Speaking about the importance of hosting the gathering, Professor Hossam Hamdy, chancellor, Gulf Medical University, said, “Today, we celebrate not just the achievements of pharmacists but the power of collaboration in health professions learning at the Gulf Medical University. By learning together and working together, we empower our students to become leaders who will drive meaningful change in global health and enhance the well-being of communities everywhere.”

Following the Dean’s address, messages were shared from leaders in the pharmacy world, Paul Sinclair, President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation; Lars-Åke Söderlund, FIP Vice President; and Professor Craig D. Cox, Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Division Head of Adult Medicine and Vice Chair, of Experiential Programs at Texas Tech. They emphasized the global impact of pharmacists and encouraged students to embrace their roles as healthcare leaders.

The keynote session featured Dr. Osama Tabbara, Founding President of the IVPN-Network, titled ‘Are You an Exceptional and Impressive Student/Pharmacist?’ Dr. Tabbara guided the audience through an interactive session that outlined the twelve key habits of impressive individuals.

Dr. Anas Hamad, Director of the Pharmacy Department at the National Center for Cancer Care & Research and Vice President of the ISPOR Qatar Chapter, followed with a talk offering real-life examples of pharmacy professionals assuming executive healthcare roles in the region and beyond. He also provided an actionable advice for students aiming to achieve similar success.

Subsequently, Dr. Saeed Nabil, a clinical pharmacist and representative member of the International Relations Committee of the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), delivered an talk titled ‘Empowering Future Pharmacists: Leading the Way in Global Health Innovation.’ In his presentation, he underlined the how future pharmacists can harness their unique skills to drive advancements in healthcare, effectively address emerging health challenges, and significantly improve patient outcomes worldwide.

The event concluded with a session by Dr. Samir Mahmoud, Director of Patient & Customer Management at Modern Pharmaceutical Company (MPC), along with Dr. Albraa and Dr. Hamza, product managers from Tabuk Pharmaceuticals, offered valuable insights from a recruitment perspective. Their session provided students with essential tips for standing out in the competitive job market.
